Compare us with Complianz
Complianz is a powerful privacy suite for your WordPress website that includes an imprint and privacy policy, as well as a cookie banner. Unfortunately, compared to Real Cookie Banner, Complianz only offers consenting to service groups instead of individual services (without TCF), does not automatically respect youth protection regulations for obtaining valid consents, or does not block data loading by e.g. WordPress plugins before consenting in all cases. Real Cookie Banner tries to do that and much more better. Compare us with alternative WordPress plugins to get your own opinion!

Real Cookie Banner as alternative to Complianz
Real Cookie Banner tries to offer you a more intuitive Cookie Banner alternative compared to Complianz. As a website owner, you will especially benefit from our guided configuration. It shows you all the important steps you have to go through when setting up the cookie banner. At the same time, it gives you the necessary freedom to perform the steps in the order that works best for you. Complianz, on the other hand, guides you through a strict setup wizard that allows you only one way to set up. It offers you 25+ integrations as templates (plus cookie matching through a cloud database if you agree to it). Real Cookie Banner as an alternative comes here with 150+ service templates that allow you to use a variety of WordPress plugins, embedded content and external services with little research in a GDPR and ePrivacy Directive compliant manner.
Each service in Real Cookie Banner allows you to run HTML and JavaScript on opt-in, opt-out or page load. This allows you to load fine-grained e.g. Google Analytics only when you have the explicit consent of your visitor to do so. In Complianz, on the other hand, you must make it work with only one script per action (not per service), which complicates the execution of scripts that Complianz does not provide explicit integration for. Also, in Complianz, your site’s visitors can only agree or reject entire service groups (e.g., Functional, Statistics, or Marketing; except with TCF compatibility). You can’t refuse individual services like Google Analytics – or you have to look for an alternative cookie banner. Real Cookie Banner is more privacy-friendly and allows your visitors to give fine-grained consent per service and per group. In addition, to presumably comply with Article 8 of the GDPR (consent of children and adolescents), the Complianz alternative Real Cookie Banner takes care that this age group does not consent to cookies etc., when they cannot do so yet. If you use services such as YouTube from the USA, you should also obtain the explicit consent of your visitors for the use of such services after the end of the Privacy Shield according to the ECJ. Real Cookie Banner provides you with suitable texts for this purpose, which you can activate. With Complianz, you have to take care of both topics yourself and, if necessary, dive deep into the legal basics.
For example, if you have YouTube videos embedded in your website, Complianz can bock them before consent, if it offers explicit integration for that service. Real Cookie Banner offers templates for 60+ services. However, if the service you are using is not included, you can programmatically block elements, mark URLs for blocking and even in inline CSS styles individual CSS selectors can be blocked. This works for almost any service with a simple and explained syntax. Also, if someone gives consent to load a YouTube or Vimeo video via a content blocker, it will start automatically – without the visitor of your website having to click a second time.
Of course, you don’t want your cookie banner to just look like something. You want it to match the design of your website. For this, you can customize your cookie banner in Complianz with 45+ settings. However, you have to adjust each of these settings manually and see a preview of the changes only if you have not enabled the TCF support. Real Cookie Banner as an alternative not only allows you to customize your design even more precisely and always see a live preview of all design changes, but also lets you choose from 20+ design presets. This will save you a lot of time, as you don’t have to manually configure every setting option, if you have found a suitable template.
Websites that earn money through advertising usually require the Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF). It allows you to obtain standardized consents and is required by many advertising networks. If you use e.g. Google Adsense without TCF, this can lead to significantly lower advertising revenues. In Real Cookie Banner you can easily enable TCF support. You can select publishers that embed advertising on your website, use Publisher Restrictions to choose exactly for which purposes you want to obtain consent, and we will proactively alert you to design violations. Of course, you can also use Content Blocker if you do not yet have consent for TCF vendors. If, on the other hand, you use Complianz, consent will always be requested from your visitors for all TCF vendors and all purposes, special purposes, features and special features. Regardless of whether you have actually embedded their content on your website or not. Not only does this become confusing, but your visitors can’t make the exact selection in the cookie banner, but always have to switch to the cookie policy to do so. This might make some website visitors unnecessarily confused.
But let’s say that your user managed to consent in cookie banner. In that case, both in Real Cookie Banner and Complianz, the consents are fully documented so that you can defend yourself in case of doubt. In Complianz you have to be satisfied with a PDF explaining the consent. In Real Cookie Banner, on the other hand, you can visually see afterwards what exactly the cookie banner looked like at the time of consent and partly where the visitor clicked in the cookie banner. In addition, we proactively notify you when changes to your cookie banner invalidate previous consents, so that you can obtain new consents from all visitors. With Complianz, you have to remember this yourself.
Both WordPress cookie plugins are installed directly in WordPress and do not download any data from cloud services to display the cookie banner. Complianz can be easily blocked by adblockers and cookie notice blockers from your visitors. The consequence is that you as a website owner never have the possibility to get consent for such visitors to use e.g. important services like Google Analytics. Here Real Cookie Banner has thought further. We have built in a variety of mechanisms that make it as difficult as possible for such blocker systems to block the cookie banner. After all, we want you to get to your consents!
In the WordPress ecosystem, page caches like WP Rocket, WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache are widely used. They cache the fully assembled pages so that they don’t have to be regenerated for each visitor. This makes your website load much faster. However, if you make a change, for example, to your cookie banner, you must clear the cache so that the changes are played out. Real Cookie Banner takes care of this automatically with 14 popular page caching plugins – so you don’t have to do anything. We couldn’t find such integrations with Complianz, so you should probably manually clear your page cache after a change.
